A new series of free classes will kick off on March 4 for women to learn home repair skills at the Habitat for Humanity Leeward Oahu (Leeward Habitat) ReStore. Each class will focus on a different home repair skill and teach construction basics through hands-on opportunities in the workshop setting.

Classes will be held on the first Saturday of the month from 10-11:30am and all materials and safety equipment will be provided to participants. Class topics include:

March 4: How to install flooring, window and door trim
April 1: Building raised garden beds
May 6: How to repair a screen
June 3: How to repair leaky plumbing pipe
July 1: How to repair a toilet
August 5: How to replace bath tub molding and molding around base of toilet
September 2: Building raised garden beds

These classes were made possible in part through the generous support of the Atherton Family Foundation in addition to the supplies and equipment to build raised garden beds for Leeward Habitat families. Two of the workshops will be focused on learning simple carpentry skills to construct raised bed garden boxes. These raised beds will then be installed at 14 current Habitat homeowner homes, and the 7 homes Leeward Habitat will build over the next year.

All classes will be held at the Leeward Habitat ReStore, 91-291 Kalaeloa Blvd. Kapolei, Hi 96707. Participants must sign-up in advance by calling the Leeward Habitat office at 808-696-7882. Space is limited.
